What Moisturizers Are Good for Oily Skin?

The best moisturizers for oily skin are in the form of gels and serums. For example, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide based serums.

This kind of serums do not contain oils while still ensuring your skin stays hydrated.

You should definitely avoid creams and lotions because they’ll make your skin even more shiny and greasy. Those that claim to be oil-free might or might not work depending on how they’ve been formulated. You’ll have to try several ones and see which one gives you the best results.

Here are other options to consider:
  • Using a mineral sunscreen; even if it’s a lotion, its high powder content helps with oil absorption and gives your skin a matte appearance.
  • Use a primer. Primers are oil free, even out the skin tone, and adsorb excessive oil. A primer that I recommend is the No 7 Airbrush.

Use exclusively micellar water to clean your face. Micellar water is like a very diluted face wash that doesn’t required to be rinsed off. It is an extremely gentle cleanser and right what oily skin needs.

In fact, the worst way of treating oily skin is to over clean it. The body works in a way where it tends to compensate what’s missing. If you’re constantly stripping away the sebum, the skin will respond by producing even more of it.

Acne prone, oily skin is caused by an excessive production of androgens.

Androgens are the male hormones which are present in women as well even though at lower levels.

Oily skin is characterized by an excessive production of sebum which leads to pore enlargement, blackheads, and bumps.
